What Could Have Been

The movie buffs over at Cracked.com detail the "10 Most Awesome Movies Hollywood Ever Killed." They are:

1. Peter Jackson's "Halo" - A bloated budget killed this potential franchise for the hugely popular videogame.

2. Unbreakable 2 - M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable" was originally intended as a trilogy, but the "origin story" chapter wasn't popular enough to get the ball rolling for the next two.

3. Ghostbusters in Hell - Dan Aykroyd had been pushing a script for this one for years, but Bill Murray wouldn't touch it.

4. Kevin Smith's "Fletch" - Smith wouldn't make it unless Jason Lee got to play the lead.

5. David Fincher's "Rendezvous with Rama" - The Arthur C. Clarke adaptation died because Fincher couldn't get enough money, and was sidetracked by Zodiac.

6. Trey Parker & Matt Stone's "Dumb and Dumber 2" - Jim Carrey is too good for sequels now, and Trey and Matt were overworked on "South Park."

7. Francis Ford Coppola's "Megalopolis" - Coppola's futuristic New York was doomed by lots of problems, including money and 9/11.

8. Howard Stern's "Fartman" - It is a "120-page excuse for a series of gratuitous lesbian love scenes," and wouldn't have been able to get a PG-13.

9. Paul Verhoeven's "Crusade" - Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, this potentially most violent movie ever was set aside so that the production company could make "Cutthroat Island."

10. Will Ferrell's "Confederacy of Dunces" - Everyone has wanted to adapt John Kennedy Toole's book for film for 26 years -- but no one will bankroll it.
