The waveform certainly is an interesting graphic for us cinephiles, allowing for retrospection on the films of our lifetime (as well as an indictment for the other people at the movies -- "Crocodile Dundee" made how much money?).
However, I always challenge these types of graphics/data/lists on one account -- this is not inflation-adjusted info. Sure, the peaks of the last 5 years are huge compared to those 15 years ago, but obviously people aren't going to the movies more (and many argue that, with the variety of home viewing options, they are probably going less).
The true marker of popularity should be either inflation-adjusted revenue or ticket numbers. If I remember correctly, this would put "Gone With The Wind" in front with something like $36 billion, adjusted. Take that, "Titanic."
