As the guys who generally prefers rainclouds to sunshine ... well, here we go. I can only struggle to find 8. I did give this the college try, I swear.
8. Friday the 13th - it happens at a camp, so I presume it's summertime. And it is a classic in its way.
7. The SandLot - actually a pretty decent Disney offering about boys growing up. It's fairly innocent, but it doesn't make me gag.
6. Field of Dreams - it is about the "boys of summer", after all.
5. Jaws - Makes you think twice before going to the beach for July 4th weekend.
4. The Great Outdoors - OK, this one I actually like quite a bit. As far as "sitcoms on film" go, this one does a pretty good job. Candy and Aykroyd in their prime, Annette Benning's first film, and "talking" raccoons.
3. Stand By Me - Probably one of the better adaptations of Stephen King, it is part of our childhoods.
2. Do The Right Thing - Early Spike Lee, able to take stereotypes about race relations and actually show them for what they are (watch the film and you can decide what that is).
1. (National Lampoon's) Vacation - Take those parts of the summer vacation/roadtrip we all hate and roll them into one miserable experience - but make Chevy Chase go through them. Add Beverly D'Angelo as one hot mom and Christie Brinkley in her best movie role ever. Fantastic.
