1. Yawn.
2. Hookers are not that pretty, even in Italy...right?
3. George Clooney is not Steve McQueen.
4. Yawn. Yes, the movie is minimalist and meditative, but the plot should keep you invested. Bullit
is an example of how it is done right. The American is not. A movie is not a "thriller" if you know what is going to happen.
5. Clara did not love Edward. She would say anything to get what she wanted, which was to "go to America." See also Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca

Ready for some blasphemy? I find Bullit to be one of the most overrated films ever. I'm not a McQueen hater, in fact I love The Great Escape, The Getaway, and Papillon. I just found the film to be pretty bland, and as for the chase anyone who has ever seen To LIve and Die in LA or The Seven Ups knows it is not the greatest.
Your reaction is not an uncommon one considering Cinemascore (a audience grading system) awarded the film a D-, this despite the fact the film was #1 this weekend. Word of mouth is going to kill it quickly, and I blame the deceitful marketing.
I love it when someone mimics my posts. I feel like Scorsese.
When it comes to car chases, let's not forget about The Blues Brothers, which, along with The French Connection, has the best one I can think of. (To Live and Die in LA is also on that list.)
Blasphemy indeed!
